The story begins in the early 1950s, when Mercedes-Benz decided to develop a roadster that would reflect the luxury and performance of the 300SL, but in a more friendly price segment. Under the leadership of engineer Karl Wilfert and designer Walter Häcker, the 190SL was born. After the 300SL was introduced, an American Mercedes importer noticed that although many were interested, the 300SL was too expensive for the average consumer looking for a weekend car. After consultation with the head office in Germany, action was taken quickly. That same year, the 190SL, based on the Ponton, was unveiled at the 1954 New York Auto Show. In addition, the 190SL offered a comfortable ride thanks to the independent front suspension and the robust rear axle. In the meantime, we at the Cool Classic Club are familiar with the 190SL. This example dates from 1963 and has a wonderful history. Carefully restored by the Mercedes specialist of the Netherlands. As it should be with a Mercedes, the invoices are carefully documented. Matching numbers and completely ready for many beautiful rides and thumbs up from bystanders!
