Powered by a smaller-capacity 2-litre V-6 that was shared with the Fiat Dino, the early 206 GT represents the mid-engined Dino in its purest and rarest form. Prior to the introduction of the brawnier 246, Ferrari built only 153 examples of the aluminium-bodied sports car between 1967 and 1969, with this example heralding from the final year of production. According to Ferrari records, left-hand-drive chassis 00388 was completed on 20 February and sold new via Nocentini Automobili in Prato, Italy. Finished in the sophisticated shade of Argento over a cabin trimmed with Nera vinyl seats featuring Bleu fabric inserts, the car was registered the following month to a local resident, Mr Lorenzo Tempesti. He enjoyed the Dino greatly, reportedly exceeding 32,400 kilometres before selling to car dealer, Mr Giovanni Tronic, in March 1971. The Ferrari then moved to Milan under new ownership before being acquired a year later by Mr Saverio Catanese, who kept it until September 1974. After finding another owner in the country, later in the decade the car was exported to Southern California. Having spent time in San Jose, Santa Barbara, Novato, and latterly Sausalito, the Dino was registered in the United Kingdom in March 2005 before being bought by billionaire collector and founder of the Nationales Automuseum, Mr Friedhelm Loh. He freighted the Ferrari to Germany, where the car has lived ever since. During this period, while repainted to red over black, chassis 00388 was awarded Ferrari Classiche certification in September 2007. Between 2010 and 2014, the Dino was cared for by another prominent German collector, before being sold to a Munich resident, who entrusted the 206 GT for maintenance and storage with classic and race car specialist Tom Fischer. Since returned to its factory colour combination of Argento over Nera vinyl seats and wearing a set of Cromodora magnesium knock-off wheels, chassis 00388 retains its matching-numbers engine and alloy body. The car further benefits from a comprehensive history report by marque expert Marcel Massini.
