In 1986 Aston Martin introduced the ultimate development of the legendary V8 Vantage. It included some cosmetic improvements, amongst other (specifically designed for the Vantage), 16-inch Ronal rims and the cars, which were renamed Series 3, are known these days as X-Pack. For most markets, the large coupé was equipped with the well-known 5.3 litre V8 four Weber carburettors and 405 horsepower, but for certain export markets like the USA and Japan, based on more stringent local emission regulations, the engine was converted to fuel injection resulting in a reduced output of 268 horsepower. Only 36 examples of the expensive Vantage, costing more than 300’000 Swiss francs, were built with left hand drive and of those only six cars were equipped with the V585 electronic fuel injection engine specs – called Cosmetic Vantage. Our Aston, # 2682, in “Cumberland Grey” with a black leather interior and automatic gearbox, was delivered to Japan and first registered in Osaka on the 22nd of December 1989. After four Japanese owners and around 60’000 kilometres driven, the Aston was acquired by the vendor in October 2015 and imported into Switzerland via the USA. After arrival in February 2016, the car received a major makeover for 20’000 Swiss francs, then was adapted to Swiss norms and finally MOT’d in June of the same year. In the following years the Vantage was driven sparingly but, as can be seen in the receipts available, regularly maintained amongst others by Roos Engineering. With now 63’200 kilometres on the clock, the noble coupé is in very good and well-maintained original condition and will certainly appeal to James Bond aficionados with its colour combination from “The living daylight” and “No time to die”. The last veteran MOT was completed in March 2021.
